There’s more to being well than just training and eating healthy foods. Taking a comprehensive approach to your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is crucial for your overall wellness. We like to refer to this as self-care. Here are some of our favorite approaches to self-care.
We may be observing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t connect with each other! Schedule an online coffee break or happy hour with your friends. Keep it positive and tell each other a good thing that happened to you recently. Brainstorm plans for when you can meet again and how awesome it will be to give them a big, warm hug. Together we are more capable and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are supposed to do!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Make a plan for your day but allow for some flexibility. For one thing, wake up around the same time each morning and head to bed around the same time every evening. Draft your goals for the day and slate out your work tasks, but make some time for your daily workout, a walk around the neighborhood, or to turn to your favorite book. Don’t be too strict with your schedule that you add extra stress. Creating a balance between procedure and recreation will help you have a more productive and rewarding day.
Gratitude is good for all people. The more gratitude we display to others during hard times, the better and tougher we become. Allow others grace. One of our most treasured ways to exercise gratitude is to contact a loved one and tell them how much you love them. A handwritten note is also a refreshing and wonderful surprise that is sure to make a person’s day.
There’s not a thing better than spending time outdoors, breathing the fresh air. Take a walk with your pup every day after lunch. Say hello to your neighbors (from a safe distance) and find out how they’re managing. Stay in the sun for for some time and focus on taking deep breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out for a meal at our local favorites doesn’t mean we can’t savor a good meal! Try a new dish for dinner and make your meals feel like an event. Queue up your favorite music, get the kiddos in on the process, and have a fun time with it!
